Whip Mix Insights: Be a Better Digital Marketer – New and What’s Coming

This is the third in a three part blog series. I recently attended a live stream event hosted by David Bain from Digital Marketing Radio. During this event, he featured 120+ of the world’s leading digital marketing professionals. Each professional was asked one question “What is your #1 actionable digital marketing tip for 2019?”

Here are 5 up and coming trends for marketing.

1) Instagram
Throughout the series, multiple professionals mentioned the growth of Instagram. The number of users over age 30 is growing the fastest.

In addition, the growth of Instagram stories is rising. According to Laurie Wang in Part 5, Instagram stories allow for companies to express the human-to-human feel and engage with customers.

The platform allows businesses to advertise and sell products. According to Andrea D’Ottavio in Part 2, the use of Instagram and Instagram shopping is currently underrated. Start using it.

Additionally, Instagram Ads is growing. The system is consistently improving and is worth looking into.


2) Pinterest
Throughout the series, multiple professionals mentioned the growth of Pinterest. The platform used to be primarily for women, but men are the largest growing group of users.

According to Jeff Sieh in Part 5, Pinterest has the longest shelf life of all the social media platforms. Items on Pinterest remain relevant and top of mind for an average of 3 months, whereas Facebook and Twitter are less than a week.

Additionally, the updated Pinterest Ads now allows for better targeting. According to Alisa Meredith in Part 5, marketers can now target individuals who have clicked on any pin that goes to your website, whether it was direct or third party. This feature is unique to Pinterest.


3) Chat Bots
Throughout the series, multiple professionals mentioned the growth of Chat Bots. Aleyda Solis in Part 1 recommends that digital marketing professionals expand their reach using chat bots.

According to Mark Wright in Part 1, by 2020, people will have more conversations with chat bots than with their spouse. Through implementation of chat bots, he is currently bringing in 27 leads a day.

David Bain, from Digital Marketing Radio, mentioned that he is currently experimenting with chat bots and is impressed with the abilities of the systems. He is currently using them and has found great success with them.


4) Voice Search
Throughout the series, multiple professionals mentioned the growth of voice search and smart households.

According to Mitch Joel in Part 2, in two years, 30% of searches will happen without a screen. Billions of smart devices have been sold. Amazon has admitted that they have over 10,000 employees working on voice search alone.

According to Nick Wilsdon in Part 4, 75% of households will be smart households by 2020. If content is not easily readable by smart home devices, it will be missed. All content needs to be accessible by all technology.

According to Michael Bonfils in Part 2, marketers need to understand voice search and make sure we are set up to get appropriate responses. This includes examining multilingual campaigns and matching the culture of other countries.

According to Alex Moss, also in Part 2, marketers need to be aware of long tail keywords and have appropriate voice responses. He believes voice search will eventually overtake typing.


5) Amazon Ads
Although Amazon Advertising has been around for a while now, Kirk Williams from Part 3 recommends taking a hard look at it again. From a budget perspective, Amazon Ads is expected to surpass Amazon Web Services in revenue by 2021.

Amazon has been giving their ad services a second look, and is expanding rapidly to keep up with Google. The growth has been so rapid, they are now the 3rd largest digital advertising platform. With Amazon on the up and coming, now is the time to jump in to “beat the crowd”.
